CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A driver was hospitalized overnight, accused of crashing into a Department of Transportation truck after speeding over 100 mph on Interstate 77.

Troopers told Channel 9 the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near West Boulevard.

Investigators said the driver reached speeds of 110 mph before slamming into the DOT truck.

Officials said DOT crews were working on the bridge and just wrapping up when the driver spun out before crashing into their truck.

Channel 9 was the only crew to head to the scene and saw the mangled red car involved in the crash.

Those workers were not hurt.

Police have not yet released the driver’s name or how badly they were hurt or said what charges they could be facing.
