Driver charged with DUI in crash that killed motorcyclist, troopers say

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Fort Mill woman is facing charges after state troopers said she hit and killed a motorcyclist in Lancaster County on Thursday night.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Vickie Morell was driving under the influence along US Highway 521, near Edgewater Corporate Parkway in the Indian Land area, when she rear-ended a Harley Davidson motorcycle just before midnight.

Ronald Hamilton, Jr., 41, of Fort Mill, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the Harley and died at the scene.

After crashing into the motorcycle, troopers said the Acura sedan Morell was driving ran off the road and hit a tree before flipping several times.

Morell was not hurt in the wreck and was taken to the Lancaster County Detention where she was arrested and charged with felony DUI involving death.

No other information has been released.
