Duke Energy starts construction on two solar projects in region

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Duke Energy Carolinas has started construction on the first two utility-owned solar projects awarded to it under the state’s competitive bidding process last year.

The utility has completed clearing the land and started building for the 69-megawatt Maiden Creek Solar project in Catawba County and the 25-megawatt Gaston Solar facility in Bessemer City. 

During peak construction, Duke says 380 workers will be on the two sites. The company says it is working to ensure high standards for safety measures on the construction sites during the COVID-19 pandemic.
