ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Democratic member of the Anson County Board of Elections resigned before a scheduled evidentiary hearing with the North Carolina State Board of Elections. A spokesperson with NCBOE said they received a verbal resignation from Democratic Board member Ross Streater and canceled the hearing.
In August, the state Board of Elections moved to hold an evidentiary hearing after three Republican board members filed complaints against Streater.
Channel 9 obtained copies of the complaints, which in part stemmed from an incident involving the former appointed election director, Gerald Poplin.
Streater was accused of communicating threats of harm toward Poplin but charges were not filed by the Anson County Sheriff’s Office. Streater denied any wrongdoing.
A hearing on complaints was set for Thursday but was canceled. NCBOE said the Anson County Democratic Party will nominate someone to replace Streater. The NCBOE must approve it.
