CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Families gathered Saturday to ride horses for free and mingle for an event inspired by last fall’s deadly shooting at Butler High School in Matthews.

The event was named “Chat-n-Chew.”

The organizer said she hopes the event brings people together and builds relationships for those still in mourning from the shooting.

“It’s just the word hate. We have to make up for that word and turn it into love,” said Chloe-Olivia Glaston.
