TRACKING: Tropical storm warning issued for South Carolina coast

TROPICS: A tropical storm warning was issued Friday for the South Carolina coast as a system forms over the Atlantic.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the warning issued Friday extends across the entire South Carolina coast. The warning means tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within 36 hours.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the coast Saturday night. About 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected to fall over parts of coastal Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The depression has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 kph) and is centered about 435 miles (695 kilometers) southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.

Friday: It will be another hot and humid day. Storm chances will remain low and will be confined to the high country Friday afternoon.

Saturday: As we head into the weekend, rain-free skies are likely for everyone on Saturday before the coastal storm gets closer.

Memorial Day: A coastal storm will bring showers and storms in for the rest of the holiday weekend. It won't rain all day Sunday and Monday, but indoor plans may be needed at times. The chance for rain will likely linger well into early next week.
