Police arrest ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect accused of 2 shootings in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police have arrested Rakeem McCree, 24, a suspect in two shootings that happened Wednesday. Officers said McCree was considered “armed and dangerous.”

Police responded to North Edgemont Avenue at around 4 p.m., after authorities said McCree fired several shots into a home with people inside. No one was hurt during the shooting.

A woman told officers McCree drove away from the house following the shooting.

Shortly after, a relative of a victim from the first shooting called police and said McCree was following his car, and had fired several shots at him.

Authorities said McCree and the two intended victims knew each other.

Officers later thought they had McCree cornered in a home after finding his car parked on East Fifth Avenue. Police swarmed the home and for several hours, investigators worked to see if he was there. Eventually, they determined he was not in the home.

Traffic was blocked off Wednesday night near Willow Street and people were asked to avoid the area while police tried to find him.
