Grand jury indicts ex-convict with violent past back on multiple robbery charges

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A grand jury indicted a man, who has a long history of violence, on three federal counts of robbery Thursday.

Channel 9 has reported on John Paul Gaddy, 34, of Denver, since 2010 after he beat a neighbor to death in Lincoln County with a crowbar and burned down the house to cover up the crime.

Gaddy pleaded guilty to the crime and was granted early release in 2019.

The convict met a woman through a program that connects prisoners with pen pals.

Gaddy moved in with Kay Bohemier, who said he was very abusive toward her.

Bohemier went into hiding after that.

In 2021, Gaddy was accused of robbing three stores:

• March 12, 2021: Robbed Lucia Food Mart on Killian Road in Stanley
• April 25, 2021: Fast Track convenience store on Gilead Road in Huntersville
• April 28, 2021: Dollar Tree on North Main Street in Troutman

Gaddy is currently in state custody after being arrested on the robbery charges.
