Harris Teeter shoppers will be required to wear mask or face-covering

MATTHEWS, N.C. — All Harris Teeter customers will be required to wear face masks inside stores starting July 22, the Matthews-based company announced on Thursday.

Shoppers who cannot wear a mask because of a medical condition are encouraged to wear a face shield or facial covering. If that isn’t feasible, they are asked to consider ordering groceries online for pick up or for delivery.

“Harris Teeter’s most urgent priority throughout the COVID-19 pandemic has been to provide a safe environment for our valued associates and shoppers while meeting our commitments to our communities to provide open stores, online shopping and an efficiently operating supply chain so that our communities have access to food and essentials,” officials said in a statement.

Several other chains have the same requirement, including Walmart, CVS, Target and others.
