CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Residents who live on St. Peters Church Road, north of Hickory, are concerned about the trash piling up outside a home, which has a collapsed roof.
Neighbors said they see people coming and going from the house that doesn’t have power.
Scott Houston works right next door building custom cabinets and has asked the county for help, but he hasn’t heard back.
“It’s just a complete eyesore to the public, not to mention the clients and customers that come into my business,” he said. “Something needs to be done.”
Channel 9’s Dave Faherty checked public records and learned the property was purchased in October 2025 by Catawba Property Development LLC for $35,000.
Faherty could not find contact information for the LLC.
A code-compliant technician visited and took photos of the property.
She told Faherty if there were any violations, they would send a letter.
Hudson has a message for the property owner.
“Just clean it up. Just clean it up,” he said.
Catawba County officials said the property owner has two weeks to respond before facing fines of $50 initially and up to $450 if the property is not cleaned up after a second warning. The county can also take the owner to court and place a lien on the property if county employees are forced to do the cleanup.
