Hispanic Federation gives Latino voters in Charlotte free rides to polls

CHARLOTTE — Members in the Latino community not only celebrated “Day of the Dead” on Saturday, but their right to vote, too.

Saturday was the last day to vote in North Carolina for the midterm election. It also happened to be “Day of the Dead”, which is a time of year where the Latino community remembers its lost loved ones.

In an effort to push Latino voters to poll sites, the Hispanic Federation spent Saturday giving free rides to polling locations in Charlotte.

“We had first-time voters, the elderly, activists,” said organizer Lariza Garzon. “Everyone is proud to be Latino and be voting. We want to make sure that pride is felt.”

If you didn’t vote during the early period, you can cast your ballot on Election Day as polls open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
