Security guard killed in attempted robbery at Salisbury arcade, police say

SALISBURY, N.C. — A security guard was killed in an attempted robbery at an arcade in Salisbury on Tuesday night, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Police said they responded around 11 p.m. to a strip mall on Statesville Boulevard for reports of a shooting.

William Eugene Mclane, 56, was found with a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Investigators with Salisbury police said Mclane was employed as a security guard at the Fish Arcade and Games business in the strip mall.

Mclane was on the job when people attempted to enter the arcade to rob it, police said. He was shot during the crime.

Police said the arcade was the only business targeted in the robbery attempt.

Salisbury police did not share any information about any suspects in the case.
