Hornets guard Coby White ready to make season debut against Detroit

CHARLOTTE — Coby White is ready to get back on the court. The Charlotte Hornets guard is expected to make his season debut Monday night against the Detroit Pistons after missing the team’s first seven games with a calf injury.

White said he feels 100% physically, but admitted he’s still feeling some butterflies ahead of his return.

“I’m always anxious. That’s not out of the norm. Every game day,” White said. “I don’t think if you don’t have the butterflies, the anxiousness ... it’s excitement. It’s not nervousness. It’s just excitement.”

While he was sidelined, White said he made a point to stay involved with the team. He was more vocal with teammates during practices and film sessions while also spending more time studying film himself.

His teammates made their excitement about his return clear during an interview Monday, cheering in the background as White talked about getting back on the court.

The Hornets face the Pistons for the second time in five days. Pregame coverage begins at 7 p.m. on Channel 9, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Because of the game, Dancing with the Stars will air live on TV 64 at 8 p.m. Viewers can watch the show’s Disney Night performances and vote for their favorites there.
