HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - A Huntersville family was among the victims injured in a chain reaction crash investigators said was caused by a fleeing suspect.

Police said officers attempted to arrest Jeffrey Greene at the Days Inn in Cornelius Saturday morning.

Investigators said Greene was wanted on felony warrants in three counties, including Mecklenburg County.

Greene managed to elude police. A pursuit began on Interstate 77 northbound in Cornelius and ended on Statesville Road in Huntersville.

Investigators said Greene lost control on the road and caused three other vehicles to crash, including one carrying a Huntersville family.

Joseph and Vickie Serrone and their son, Brandon, were among the victims injured in the crash.

A friend of the Serrone family told Channel 9 that Vickie Serrone was still in intensive care as of Saturday night.

“They had just left their home and were driving on Statesville Road when suddenly Joe had an SUV rolling towards him,” said Mac McAlpine. “He had no place to go.”

Channel 9 talked with McAlpine just after he visited the family in the hospital. He said Vickie Serrone suffered a fractured rib, punctured lung, lacerated spleen and concussion. He also said her son Brandon broke an eye socket and had to get stitches on his side and back due to the crash.

“I’m just thankful no one was killed,” said McAlpine.

A total of eight people were injured in the crash, including two Cornelius police officers and Greene.

Investigators said Greene was released from the hospital Monday and could face additional charges.
