CHARLOTTE — From remote learning to working from home and keeping in touch with loved ones on Zoom, the pandemic truly shined a spotlight on the digital divide across the Carolinas.
But now, a new internet company is expected to make waves in South End to help close the gap. Brightspeed is basing its headquarters here, and the company’s CEO said now that they have cut the ribbon and moved, the real work begins.
The mission: Bringing high-speed internet to thousands of North Carolinians.
“This is an opportunity for us to do something across 20 states, and a big chunk of it is here right in North Carolina,” CEO Bob Mudge said. “We will bring fiber optic technology to over 800,000 homes that don’t have that access today.”
