CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators with several agencies spent hours Monday searching for evidence in connection with a shooting at a pawn shop in Granite Falls.
Investigators with metal detectors went back and forth over an area in some woods near Peach Orchard Road, east of Granite Falls.
Channel 9 learned a prison crew cleaning trash along a road nearby recently found part of a handgun. That weapon's serial number traced back to one of the guns stolen during the Tony Myers murder case.
It has been three years since someone went into Granite Falls Gun and Pawn and shot and killed Myers. Police believe the motive was robbery because several weapons were missing.
Two months ago, Myers' family offered a $100,000 reward in the case.
The area police searched Monday has been used in the past to fire weapons. Eyewitness News saw officers digging up several shell cases in the dirt Monday, using the metal detectors to find possible evidence.
All of the shell casings will be tested against the weapons recovered so far in the case.
