CHARLOTTE — Jury trials in Mecklenburg County will begin Monday after being delayed since the start of the pandemic, which gives some families relief that justice will be served.

“Trials are the engine that drive the criminal justice system,” Bruce Lillie, assistant district attorney said. “We have to have trials in order for the rest of it to work.”

There have been some changes inside the courthouse.

Witnesses will wear clear, plastic masks and speak from behind plexiglass. Prosecutors and defense attorneys will also be behind plexiglass.

The jury will now sit in the gallery.
