No charges after investigation into whether man tried to lure child in Lancaster Co.

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said no charges will be filed after receiving reports of a man who may have been attempting to lure a child.

The Lancaster School District issued a warning to parents about the incident on Monday.

Authorities had said the man was trying to get a 12-year-old boy on Cortland Drive in Walnut Creek to play baseball with his grandchildren Sunday.

Investigators said they identified and spoke to the man who approached the boy.

They said the man is not the person identified in social media posts about the incident and has no criminal record.

Officials said no crime was committed and no charges will be filed.

"This incident caused a good bit of legitimate concern among area residents," said Sheriff Barry Faile. "I am happy we got to the bottom of it. Lots of social media activity and communication among various HOA members occurred, which is a good thing. Residents should be aware of incidents that occur in their communities. However, some of what was published by third parties about this case was not true. Citizens with information about matters under investigation should report that information to us. We have the resources to investigate these incidents and find the truth about what happened and who did it."
