Lancaster hospital’s new medical helicopter can provide care more quickly

LANCASTER, S.C. — A tool that will no doubt save lives is now available at MUSC Health Lancaster.

The hospital held a ribbon cutting Tuesday for its first medical helicopter. The hospital has contracted with a company called Med-Trans to provide the service.

The CEO for MUSC Health Lancaster said before getting the chopper two weeks ago, patients in need of transport had to go in an ambulance by ground or wait for a medical helicopter in Charlotte, Columbia, or Charleston to become free.

“For patients that need definitive care, where time matters for services that we don’t offer to transport them to other facilities, they can provide that care pretty quickly,” said CEO Scott Broome.
