CHARLOTTE — After six decades of severing people in the sky, an American Airlines flight attendant got a water canon salute on her final landing as part of a cabin crew.
Meet the women who has been preparing passengers for takeoff for over 60 years, as she gets ready to retire her wings.
Carol Fair arrived on Flight 733 from London’s Heathrow Airport, greeted by an adoring crowd.
She was blowing kisses, wearing a crown and sash, befitting her status as the longest serving flight attendant for American Airlines.
She started in 1963.
She said she only planned to fly for six months, but it stuck, and became a career that she loves.
“If you love what you do, you don’t want to quit,” Fair said.
Even on board her final flight, she was sharing advice for the women coming up in the field behind her.
“It’s hard in the beginning because you don’t have any seniority but you build up,” said Fair. “I’m number one now, but you hang in there. You just have to persevere and stay.”
Now after more than 60 years, she’s getting her flowers, soaking it all in with a grateful heart and ready with lots of plans to enjoy retirement.
