CMPD: Man arrested after driving car into SouthPark business complex

CHARLOTTE — Police charged a man with breaking and entering Thursday after they said he drove a car into a SouthPark business complex.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said it happened around 1 a.m. at a complex on Sharon Road, which houses Diamonds Direct Charlotte near Little Mama’s Italian restaurant.

At the scene, officers said they found a vehicle that had been driven through the building.

A man, later identified as Joab Ham, was found inside that business and told officers that he was the vehicle’s driver.

On-site security told police that Ham was seen pulling on the locked door handles of the business. He then asked to be let into the business so he could get diamonds but was told to come back during business hours.

Instead of leaving, Ham got into his vehicle and drove it through the entrance of the store, according to police reports.
