CHERRYVILLE, N.C. — A former Cherryville man has been charged with sexually assaulting the child of a family that tried to help him through hard times.
Clay Allen Rudisill, 51, was charged with one felony count of first-degree sexual offense of a victim under 13 years old.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Springs East Road, Lincolnton, NC Wednesday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. reference a possible sexual assault of a juvenile. Deputies were also given a description of the suspect and located him walking along Springs East Road and detained him. After deputies spoke with the reporting party, the suspect was transported to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
During an interview with detectives, Rudisill confessed to the crime which involved a 7-year-old female.
Investigators said the family was trying to help the man out by providing a place for him to stay.
He was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond and will have a first appearance Thursday in Lincoln County District Court.
