Man charged with shooting half-brother to death in Lancaster Co., deputies say

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A man has been charged after allegedly shooting his half-brother to death Saturday afternoon in Lancaster County, deputies said.

Manly Thompson, 43, was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime for shooting Tony Gladden, 47, to death, officials said.

Gladden was found around 3 p.m. in a home on Franandel Drive near Lynwood Drive, according to officials.

Authorities said when they got to the scene, Gladden was lying on the living room floor of the home after being shot multiple times.

The victim was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he later died, officials said.

"This was an unfortunate incident of violence between family members, and our thoughts and prayers are with this family," said Sheriff Barry Faile. "Although Thompson was taken into custody within minutes of the shooting, our investigation will continue and hopefully will lead us to the cause of this tragedy."

Deputies said the victim lived at the home with his mother but Thompson did not live at the same address.

A witness told investigators that Gladden and Thompson were alone in the living room when the witness said they heard gunshots and Thompson then ran from the home.

Deputies said Thompson later came back to the home, where he was arrested. He was taken to the Lancaster County Detention Center.
