Man critically injured in shooting at north Charlotte Days Inn

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in critical condition after being shot at a motel in north Charlotte overnight.

Channel 9 was the first crew on the scene at the Days Inn on West Sugar Creek Road, near Interstate 85.

We first updated WSOC-TV news app users with a notification just before 5 a.m. Monday to make them aware of the crime and that police were still looking for the gunman.

Police said they responded to the motel just after midnight and found the victim. He was seriously injured and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Channel 9 crews could see police roping off the parking lot with crime tape and investigators collecting evidence and interviewing possible witnesses.

A police K-9 was used to try to track the shooter but no arrests have been made.

Detectives have not released any other details surrounding the shooting.
