CHARLOTTE — According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a woman died following a crash that took place in north Charlotte last Monday.
On Aug. 17, police officers, firefighters and MEDIC responded to a call at the intersection of Statesville Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard around 9:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, they located a white pickup truck and a silver Nissan Rouge that was heavily damaged. Two people inside the Nissan were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Jeffery Almond, the driver of the truck, stayed on the scene. He was found to be impaired and charged with DWI and felony serious injury.
On Friday, 35-year-old Briana Watkins, the passenger of the Nissan, was pronounced deceased.
Detectives have obtained an additional arrest warrant for felony death by vehicle on Almond.
The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
