Man killed in shooting in northwest Charlotte, police say

CHARLOTTE — A man was shot and killed Saturday morning in northwest Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

In an update from CMPD Sunday, the victim has been identified as 27-year-old Catoine Tyreke Funderburk .

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 2 a.m. on Sumter Avenue near Rozzelles Ferry Road.

CMPD says they found Funderbunk suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived. MEDIC pronounced the him dead on the scene.

A grandmother who lived next door to the victim said she ducked for cover as bullets flew through her apartment.

”I went on in the bathroom and sat down on the commode. And I heard bam bam bam bam bam...shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting. I eased on out there and I went over to the window right there and I said, ‘oh, they done shot my window out,’” said the woman, who did not want to be identified.

She told Channel 9′s Glenn Counts that those bullets killed her neighbor.

Homicide detectives are still investigating and ask anyone with information to call 704-432-TIPS.
