'Our detectives never gave up’: Pair arrested in 2018 Gastonia double homicide

GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police have made two arrests in a 2018 double homicide, the agency announced in a news release Wednesday.

On April 4, 2018, Brenda Campbell Henson, 71, and Robert Metcalfe, 47, were found dead at Henson’s home on Mary Avenue.

Marcus Meadows, 50, and Brittney Gidney, 30, both of Gastonia, were arrested Wednesday on two counts of first-degree murder.

“Our detectives never gave up on finding the suspects responsible for this crime, and it was the help of the community that helped apprehend these individuals,” Gastonia police said.

Family members told Channel 9 in 2018 that Henson was found stabbed to death in the living room and Metcalfe’s body was nearby.

“We appreciate the community’s assistance in coming forward in this case and reward money is available for additional information,” said Criminal Investigations Division Capt. Keith McCabe.
