Matthews police arrest man for distributing child sexual abuse material

MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Matthews Police Department arrested Jean Paul Vaca-Lopez on Thursday after an investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse material.

The investigation began on Jan. 14 when Matthews Police received a tip through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) database. Detectives identified Vaca-Lopez as the suspect and obtained a search warrant from the Mecklenburg County Magistrate’s Office. The North Carolina Bureau of Investigation assisted in executing the search warrant on Jan. 23.

The Matthews Police Department arrested Jean Paul Vaca-Lopez on Thursday after an investigation into the distribution of child sexual abuse material.

Following the investigation, Vaca-Lopez was charged with nine counts of Felony Second Degree Exploitation of a Minor. He was taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail but has since been released.
