Victim identified in possible east Charlotte drowning

CHARLOTTE — A 50-year-old man was pronounced dead after a possible drowning in east Charlotte Thursday night, police said.

Officials say a call came in for someone face down in a pool just before 11 p.m. It happened on Powell Road, near Robinson Church Road.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified the victim as Christopher Alcala.

Initially, Alcala was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he did not survive.
