Memorial Day travelers brace for high gas prices, busy roads

CHARLOTTE — AAA expects more than 39 million people to drive to their holiday destinations this Memorial Day weekend despite the high prices at the pump.

Average gas prices are up sharply from this time last year. GasBuddy predicts the national average will be $4.48 per gallon come Monday.

Locally, the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in North Carolina is $4.21.

In South Carolina, it’s $3.13, according to GasBuddy.
