Military academies visiting as city bids for Army-Navy football game

CHARLOTTE — Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy — better known as Army and Navy — were in Charlotte on Friday for a site visit in consideration of bringing the schools’ football rivalry to Bank of America Stadium.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation confirmed the visit.

The annual Army-Navy game has become a mainstay in Philadelphia, with occasional visits to Baltimore and, last year, New York. The 2022 game will be played at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, on Dec. 10.

The Orlando Sentinel first reported last month that the military academies were considering farther-flung sites for the annual grudge match, beginning with the 2023 game.
