MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Records show the town of Mooresville paid more than $83,000 to prevent the release of a video from October 2024 that reportedly shows the mayor, without pants, inside town hall late at night with a woman.
The town released invoices related to the case to our partners with The Charlotte Observer.
In April, the town appealed a judge’s order forcing it to release the video.
The case is now in the hands of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
In April, Mayor Chris Carney sat down with Channel 9’s Erika Jackson. She asked Carney if he had any plans to resign.
That same month, town commissioners took a vote of no confidence and urged Carney to resign. He declined.
Carney claimed his pants were off because he got sick on them.
He says he has no plans to run again in 2027.
