Family members of men found in burned truck speak out

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The mother of one of the two men found dead in a burning pickup truck spoke with Channel 9 minutes after the York County Coroner released their identities Saturday.

The coroner identified the victims as Aron Lucas Young, 35, and Jerry Dwayne Farmer, 43, both of Gastonia.

The Cherokee County Sheriff said Young and Farmer were both shot and killed in Blacksburg, South Carolina and then later transported to York County, where someone found their bodies in a burning pickup truck.

The sheriff said he believed it was a drug deal gone wrong.

Investigators identified Donald Creswell and Steven Parker as suspects in the case and both were arrested and charged with murder.

On Saturday, Channel 9 reporter Alexa Ashwell spoke with Young's mother who said she knew something was wrong when she didn't hear from her son last Monday.

Terri Young said she decided to file a missing person report and that's when investigators approached her about the men found dead in the burning truck.

"When someone asks you for DNA to help identify your son, there are really no words to describe that feeling," said Terri, who is Lucas Young's mother. "It feels like your heart has been ripped out."

Terri opened up to Channel 9 about her son's on-going struggle with addiction. She also shared pictures that she said captures Lucas in a way she wants him to be remembered.

"It's (addiction) everywhere you look in all walks of life and it destroys families and it destroyed my son," she said. "Lucas was a good person. Everyone who knew him loved him."

Terri said she wants all people involved prosecuted to the fullest extent.

"My son didn't deserve that and anybody would tell you that," she said.

Farmer's sister said she can't even have a funeral for her brother.

I can't kiss him goodbye,” Angie Smith said Sunday. “I can't touch his face. I can't even see his face ever again."

On Friday, the Cherokee County Sheriff announced he believed other people were involved in transporting the bodies to York County. No other arrests have been made.
