NEWTON, N.C. — The Army National Guard in Newton said they have a lot of work to do after this weekend's flooding destroyed the armory.
Water marks inside the building are as high as 3 feet on the walls -- everything from books to desks, ruined from all the water.
National guardsmen worked to move out furniture and help with cleanup efforts Monday.
About a dozen trucks will also need to be repaired, some with water marks coming up to the windshield.
Channel 9 spoke to a colonel with the National Guard who said all of the weapons in the vault at the armory need to be dried and cleaned.
"We were able to recover those out of there. The weapons were in a container, a steel container, and they were not waterproof, so got some cleaning to do on the weapons absolutely," said Lt. Col. Tim Aiken.
Aiken said all of the important military documents and paperwork at the armory have shipped out. The weapons have also been moved to another location.
