NC legislature returns to session, budget in focus

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina legislature is heading back into session this April, and all eyes will be on the budget.

North Carolina is the only state that hasn’t passed one.

N.C. Chamber President Gary Salamido says some of the things the chamber is advocating for is a passed budget and policies addressing housing and child care.

“It really comes down to people and workforce,” Salamido said. “Those key enablers of workforce are child care and housing and how we can modernize while keeping everyone safe, our childcare regulations, look for new ways to source it, fund it.”

One of the budget hold-ups is whether the corporate tax rate should continue to fall at its current rate. Salamido says the chamber isn’t taking a position on that. He says the chamber just wants the state to stay competitive.
