RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State University has parted ways with head coach Dave Doeren after a 3-4 start to the season, the school announced Saturday.

North Carolina State University’s McMurray Family Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan announced that Doeren had been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.

The move comes after a 31-28 loss at Stanford on Friday.

Doeren was the fourth-longest tenured coach in the FBS and became the Wolfpack’s winningest coach with a 95-70 record.

“I want to thank Coach Doeren for his service and contributions to NC State, and for always representing the university with pride,” Corrigan said in a statement. “I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role. We wish Dave, Sara and his family the best in the future.”

Todd Goebbel, NC State’s running backs coach and special teams coordinator, will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Goebbel has been on the Wolfpack staff since 2019.

NC State said a national search for its next head football coach will begin immediately.

NC State also fired General Manager Andy Vaughn; the program also let go of defensive coordinator DJ Eliot on Sunday.
