NCSHP: Chase spanning two counties ends in fatal crash

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — One person was killed during a chase that spanned two counties, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

According to a release from the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday evening around 5:00, highway patrol notified the county’s communications center about a motorcycle chase that was moving into Stanly County from Montgomery County.

Deputies became involved in the chase close to 5:30 p.m. when the driver went into Badin on Highway 740.

The sheriff’s office says the driver lost control of the motorcycle just before the intersection of Highway 740 and Falls Road. The motorcycle went off the road and hit an unmarked sheriff’s office vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene, the sheriff’s office says.

Deputies have not released the identity of the driver or the cause of the crash.

The NCSHP is investigating the crash, and Channel 9 has reached out for more details.
