GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A woman is in the hospital after hitting a Gaston County Police officer, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers say the woman driving a black car hit the officer while he was trying to turn on Dallas-Cherryville Highway near Beaver Dam Way. The accident happened just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday night.
According to the police, both drivers were taken to the Regional Medical Center for injuries.
A Channel 9 news crew was at the scene as both cars were being taken away by a tow truck.
The accident is being investigated by the state highway patrol. An internal investigation is being done by the Gaston County Police Department. The names of the involved officer and driver are not being released at this time.
The officer involved in the crash has been placed on administrative leave, according to the department.
