Neighborhood in Lower South End applies to become social district

CHARLOTTE — A second Charlotte neighborhood wants to become a social district.

A spokesperson for the City of Charlotte told Channel 9 that Gilde Brewery in Lower South End has submitted an application.

Plaza Midwood was the first neighborhood in Charlotte to apply. The city spokesperson said Plaza Midwood’s boundary is currently being refined.

Social districts are designated areas where people can sip alcohol and stroll.

The Charlotte City Council will have to approve each application.
