CHARLOTTE — After two shootings so far this month in the same neighborhood, a four-year-old was killed in the most recent one early Sunday morning.
Instead of getting ready for Kindergarten, Caleb Flax’s family is making arrangements for the four-year-old’s funeral.
CMPD says Caleb was one of two people shot when someone sprayed bullets toward homes on Grassy Patch Lane.
A neighbor’s doorbell camera caught the rapid gunfire just after 3 a.m. Sunday. Hours later, Channel 9 saw Police laying out more than 100 evidence markers in the street.
“They say people don’t return to the scene of the crime,” a neighbor who didn’t want to go on camera said, “Well, you have to say, what if?”
Channel 9’s Erika Jackson spoke with several neighbors on Grassy Patch Lane; none of them wanted to show their face on camera in retaliation.
Sunday’s shooting was the second in the neighborhood this month. CMPD says a woman was hurt when two when two homes were shot into on Grass Ridge Drive on Sept. 2. Neighbors hope to see more officers on patrol.
“They need to be out here. They need to be out here talking to the folks, talking to the residents.”
Officers don’t believe the two shootings are connected. No one has been arrested for either. Caleb’s grandfather has a message for the person who took his grandson’s life.
“Come at 3 o’clock in the morning. Wake everybody abruptly while they was asleep, cowards, cowards, cowards.”
Police say 16 people were in the four homes that were shot into. Three cars were also hit; anyone with information about this shooting is being asked to contact CMPD.
