BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A new animal shelter is set to open in Burke County next spring.

It will have twice as much space for animals, according to the Morganton Herald.

It will be able to house more than dogs and at least 40 cats.

Burke County’s manager said the current shelter is often full, and they take in about 2,500 animals every year.
