North Carolina dominates list of trending destinations for foodies

CHARLOTTE — Four locales in the Carolinas have been named on a list of the “top trending destinations for foodies” in the nation. The feature is compiled by restaurant review site Yelp, which limited its list to places with populations under 250,000 and “must-know food scenes.”

Yelp says its data-science team looked for cities with the highest restaurant ratings from out-of-towners and then considered what visitors were loving there. North Carolina dominates the list, claiming three of the 10 spots.

Closest to Charlotte — and No. 1 on the list — is Asheville, a small city in the western North Carolina mountains that is no stranger to such accolades. Yelp notes the melding of Appalachian fare with flavors of the American South in the dining scene there, recommending that visitors check out Cúrate or Chestnut.
