North Carolinians cross state line to buy Fourth of July fireworks

NORTH CAROLINA — Many people living in North Carolina crossed the state line to buy their Fourth of July fireworks.

Shoppers in search of the big bangs  spent big bucks.

Experts said profits in the United States this year could reach up to $800 million on fireworks, which is up $5 million from last year and $200 million more from 10 years ago.

Part of the increase is due to more states with fewer restrictions on selling fireworks, experts said.

In North Carolina, consumer sales on explosives and aerial fireworks are not allowed, but across the state line in South Carolina, shoppers can find almost anything.

It is still illegal to bring banned items back into North Carolina.

Setting them off and damaging property could land in you in jail for up to six months or facing hundreds of dollars in fines, according to state law.
