Northlake Mall occupancy rates up from last year

CHARLOTTE — Even though many store closures made headlines, there are now more businesses open at Northlake Mall than at this time last year.

According to state-filed documents, in March 2023, the occupancy at Northlake Mall was 71%, which is a three percent jump from 2022.

This year, the mall has had four stores close, including the Apple store and, more recently, the clothing store called Buckle. But, according to documents, two new stores could be moving in, and one of them would be in a 70,000-square-foot space. The deals are still being drafted, and the names of the new stores have not been released.

Another change found in the documents focuses on mall security, including more off-duty officers, gun-sniffing dogs, new surveillance monitors and cameras, and vehicle recognition technology.
