Man hit, killed by car on Independence Boulevard in Matthews

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Police are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a car on Independence Boulevard in Matthews late Saturday night.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Independence Boulevard near Interstate 485.

Officials said Matthews Police, Matthews Fire & EMS and MEDIC responded to the crash. When they got to the scene, they found a man who had serious injuries and needed life-saving efforts.

The efforts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, but he has not been identified.

Matthews Fire said I-485 was down to one lane while authorities investigated the scene. The crash is still being investigated by the Matthews Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the car at this time, according to police.
