Police investigate shooting after party at social club

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A social club in a north Charlotte shopping center, where a shooting was reported early Monday morning, is being investigated by Charlotte police.

Neighboring business owner Will Sinka considers Tryon Square a tightly knit community during the day and is concerned that it was the scene of a shooting.

"I've been here for about a year, and it's the first time we've had something like this happen," he said.

Police marked shell casings in the parking lot after getting a call about an armed robbery up the street at Hilo Drive around 5 a.m. Monday.

Officers said a victim showed up a few blocks away on Ritch Avenue with life-threatening gunshot injuries.

At the same time, people went to police headquarters and reported that their car had been shot.

Police said they were in the parking lot late Sunday night near S&G Social Club, which was open late.

The property owner and Sinka told Eyewitness News that it's a gathering place, but that's all they knew.

"(It) seems like a bunch of great guys who have a motorcycle club (and) come together," Sinka said.

Eyewitness News worked to find out more about what goes on at night.

County documents show that the owner assumed the name less than a month ago. She said in a phone conversation that S&G Social Club is a social club, but not a nightclub. The establishment doesn't have a liquor license, but it does host parties and events to which attendees can bring their own alcohol. The owner is also concerned about the shooting.

Sinka welcomed his new neighbors but wants everyone to keep the area safe.

"We just ask for everybody to look out for one another, and basically if you see something, say something," he said.
