CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One of the families ripped apart by the gun violence that spread across Charlotte this weekend has a powerful message for their loved one's killer.
There are only a handful of people who know the effect of the violent weekend as much as John Jennings.
His nephew Dominique Wheeler was one of two people killed in a shooting Saturday off North Hoskins.

“This is not Charlotte,” Jennings said. “We hear this in some of the largest cities but not Charlotte, so what's going on.”
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Chief Kerr Putney announced Tuesday that all seven of the weekend's shootings were from gang-like activity.
Wheeler's cousin said she believes he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The family said Wheeler's parents have taken it hard.
His father had a stroke Tuesday morning and his mother is at his side, offering support at the hospital.
The family is asking the community come together to try to find a solution to the violence and pray there is never a weekend like the past one again.
“It's a dead end. It's my nephew today but it's someone else tomorrow,” Jennings said. “And next week it's someone else. It’s a never ending story until we bring it to a close."
