The parents of Josh Schulman spoke at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department headquarters Wednesday morning, tearfully pleading for closure in his death.

Detectives said armed suspects broke into the family's home on Outer Bridge Lane, off Providence Road, last August and shot Josh, 25, before brutally beating his 70-year-old father.

“Josh was a terrific guy,” his father, Larry Schulman, said Wednesday. “I don’t know why this happened. You just don’t get over something like this. The pain is really incredible, but the pain is from loss.”

Police don’t know why the robbery turned violent, because they said both men cooperated and did not put up a fight.

“We loved him so much,” his mother, Andrea Schulman, said. “I loved him from the moment he was conceived.”

Police and Schulman's parents announced an increase in the reward for information leading to an arrest in the case to $15,000.

“My hopes and dreams were for him to get married and fall in love and me have grandchildren,” Andrea said. “All that was taken away in a split second.”

Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.
