Passenger dead in single-car wreck on I-77 in South Carolina

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — A passenger in a car died in a crash Saturday on northbound Interstate 77 in Chester County.

The passenger was ejected from the vehicle at about 11:40 a.m. after the car veered off the road 4 miles south of Richburg and hit a construction sign and a tree.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt and was entrapped in the car, was flown to Carolinas Medical Center.

Officials are investigating the wreck.
