The People’s Market set to open second location in Lower South End

CHARLOTTE — The People’s Market has announced plans to expand its footprint in the Queen City.

According to Founder Cory Duran, The People’s Market LoSo will open in the heart of Lower South End in Station 4, which is part of a 15-acre mixed-use project being developed by Beacon Partners.

Duran is targeting a spring 2024 opening for the new 5,000-square-foot café that will have seating for 120 and feature the market’s signature sunny yellow accents.

The new location will also have direct access to The Rail Trail and Scaleybark light rail station, as well as free on-site parking for two hours.

“We want to be a gathering spot for all people to eat, work, and play,” Duran said in a news release. “I believe this location will deliver on that notion, and getting to us will be easy by car, light rail, or bike. We’re excited to be part of the growing LoSo hub in the vibrant neighborhood of South End.”

The full menu is being developed by chef Deacon Ovall and will offer a variety of scratch-made fare — breakfast, artisan sandwiches and wraps, pizza, salads, smash burgers, pastries, and vegan options.

A full bar will offer craft beer on tap, custom cocktails, and wine by the glass. Non-alcoholic drinks will include a coffee program with batch brew, Nitro, and espresso drinks. Brewed teas, smoothies, and refreshers will also be available.

The People’s Market LoSo will be open seven days a week.

The market’s original location on East Boulevard closed in February 2020 amid financial difficulties but Duran reopened last August in the former Earl’s Grocery space at 1609 Elizabeth Avenue.
